INTRODUCTION

Every commercial kitchen gets built twice. Once on paper, and once in concrete. The difference between a good build and an expensive one is how much you actually saw the first time.

A flat plan shows you a footprint from above. It cannot tell you that the hood hangs too low, that two doors swing into the same three feet of aisle, or what a cook sees standing at the range on a Saturday night. Those problems do not disappear because nobody drew them. They wait for the slab to cure.

That is the case for 3D kitchen design. We build your kitchen as a scaled model before anyone pours concrete, so you can look around the finished room while changing it still costs nothing. Here is what that actually means, and what it catches.

Not Just the Cookline

On a recent bake shop build, the model covered every space, not only the room with the ovens in it. The bake floor, laid out for a full production morning. The cook line under a full exhaust hood, sized and spaced before a single unit shipped. A lamination room built around a dough sheeter and long stainless tables. Right down to the ice machine and the spot where the crew takes five.

Nothing left to chance, and all of it resolved before day one.

What is 3D kitchen design?

It is building a scaled, three-dimensional model of your kitchen before construction starts. Every wall, station, and piece of equipment is placed in the model, so you can look around the finished room and resolve problems on a screen instead of on the floor.

How is a 3D model different from a 2D floor plan?

A floor plan shows the footprint from above. It cannot show you a hood that hangs too low, an aisle that pinches when two doors open at once, or what a cook sees standing at the range. A model lets you check all of that directly.

An architect designs the building. A foodservice designer designs the kitchen that goes inside it. The 3D model is where those two sets of decisions get reconciled, so the architect, the contractor, and the owner all end up working from one picture.

Your journey begins with a 30-60 minute initial meeting led by your assigned Chef Designer. This session is dedicated to understanding your vision and needs, translating them into an initial design. Following this, we’ll reconvene for a real-time collaboration session to refine the design. Based on your chosen package, you’ll have two to three meetings to review and finalize the design. Our design timelines vary, with some packages being completed in just 2-4 weeks. Your Chef will keep you informed about the expected timelines and next steps during each meeting.

Communication is through email and text, with the Design Kick-Off and subsequent meetings held over Zoom. This allows for real-time collaboration and adjustments. All designs will be sent to you in PDF format via email.

We aim to design spaces that efficiently fulfill your vision. If you wish to incorporate existing equipment, please bring the necessary details to the initial meeting.

You have the option to buy the required equipment through HRI. After finalizing your design, HRI will provide a comprehensive equipment quote.
